In 2007/08, Labour-led Knowsley Council achieved
* Gained the highest possible score from the Audit Commission for its “Use of Resources” inspection. This means that we are one the best local authorities in the country when it comes to getting value for taxpayers’ money
* Our Benefits service was independently assessed and found to be “excellent” (again, one of the best in the country) for the third year in a row
* Our Exchequer Team (financial administration) was judged as the best in the country and awarded “Team of the Year” for the second time in three years
* We have led the budget process which has resulted in investment in key services at an affordable Council Tax level and without any cuts
Our goals for the future
* Improve efficiency across the Council and keep Council Tax levels low while protecting key services from cuts
* Make significant savings and get even better value for money by improving the way we procure and purchase goods and services
* Develop a new Internet facility called “Find my nearest …...” which will enable Knowsley residents to identify their local public services (such as schools, leisure centres, GPs and walk-in health centres)
* Redevelop the Council’s Internet site to make it more user friendly and accessible for our customers, as well as ensuring 24/7 access for customers to all Council services
* Maintain our excellent financial services and ensure that the residents receive the best possible services at the lowest possible cost
